Yoga Vasishta – Book 6 begins the profound Nirvāṇa Prakarana, the chapter devoted to liberation and the realization of the Supreme Self. This volume presents the first part of Sage Vasishta’s teachings on the path from intellectual understanding to direct Self-Knowledge and lasting inner freedom. The book explores the nature of consciousness, the transcendental Turiya state, renunciation, meditation, Samādhi Yoga, and the progressive stages of spiritual awakening. Rather than presenting Vedanta as abstract philosophy alone, the teachings are brought to life through memorable stories and dialogues that illustrate how Self-Knowledge can be integrated into everyday life. Among the important narratives is the inspiring story of Chūdāla and Sikhidwaj, demonstrating that true renunciation is an inner state rather than merely abandoning worldly responsibilities. The volume also introduces the story of Kach, whose journey reveals the effort, contemplation, and discipline underlying the attainment of Self-Knowledge.
