Jaimini was a great ascetic, an extraordinary intellect, and a profound scholar who studied under Sage Vyasa. He was such a Mahatma (exalted soul) that his own guru, Veda Vyasa, praised him in the Vishnu Purana as 'Samago Jaiminih Kavih'. This means the guru himself gave him a glowing testament, stating that 'our Jaimini, who has mastered the Sama Veda, is a fine poet.' One should not assume that he studied only the Sama Veda; he was a towering intellectual who completely mastered all four Vedas, the Shiksha (phonetics) along with other Vedangas, and every branch of knowledge.
